Writing Prompts
This is a collection of writing prompts that have been shared by our wonderful user base of teachers.

- Suppose you had the opportunity to travel anywhere you wanted. Write to explain where you would go and why.

- Your main character was chosen by NASA to spend time on the International Space Station (ISS). Write a functional short story about a small moment that happens while that character is aboard the ISS. This moment can be funny, exciting, or even scary. Spend time developing a great main character, setting, and series of events.
- What is the best/worst day you've ever experienced?
- If you could have one superpower what would it be? Why?
- Compare/Contrast two characters from Midsummer Night's Dream.
- A Day in the Life...
- "Think like a Disciplinarian" type of question, like "What would Albert Einstein think of 2020?"
- If you could be any famous person, dead or alive, who would you be? And what would you do for a day?
- What makes someone a hero? Super powers? Brave acts? Protecting others? Fighting for justice? Create a story in which you are the hero solving a problem.
- Tell the story of your journey to America. Start your story with details about who you are (your full name, age, and description of yourself) and then give details about life in your home country with details about life there. Then, tell about the decision to come to America. Why did your family make the decision to move? Next, write about the journey to America itself-did you fly here, walk here, come by boat, did you have any challenges, etc. And last, talk about what life is like now that you are in America. How is it similar and different from life before your journey?
- Would You Rather?
- Today is the day! You get to switch places with your favorite character from a book. Make a comic showing what your day would be like. Make sure through your actions and dialog it is clear what character you have become. In the title, list your name, the book title, and the name of the character you have become.
- Would you rather have wings or a jetpack? Why?

- State an opinion that you feel strongly about. Create a conversation between two characters in which you explain your position, give an argument to defend your position, and evidence to support it. For example: Cats are better than dogs. For one reason, they are easier to take care of. The evidence is that cats clean themselves and their owners don't have to give them a bath.

- If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
- What is your biggest fear? What is your favorite family vacation?
